Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The goal is to understand of NGN conception, the students should obtain not only analytical knowledge but they should be able to design and implement the NGN network and to assess speech and video quality.

Summary
The course is focused on the architecture of the Next Generation Network, especially on IMS system which was adopted as the first standard complying with NGN. The students get acquainted with elements and protocols of NGN and IMS. The transition toward the IMS brings a number of new issues in fields of speech and video quality.

Subject syllabus:
NGN architecture and IMS standardization.
IMS elements and signalling protocols.
Using DNS records in NGN (backup, the purpose of NAPTR and SRV records, e164 mapping into the space of name identifiers - EUNUM).
Speech quality - subjective and objective assessment, MOS, intrusive and non-intrusive approach, PESQ and E-model.
Video quality assessment - subjective approach, objective PSNR and SSIM metrics.
