Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The target of this subject is getting a theoretical knowledge of electrical drives and practical experiences from their applications. Gained pieces of knowledge make a part of general knowledge of electrical engineer, especially concentrated on applications of electrical drives.

Teaching methods

Summary

The subject focuses on the basic knowledge of principles, design and operations of electrical drives. The prerequisites would be courses on electronics, power electronics and electrical machines.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Verification of study: Graduating of control tests T1 a T2 Conditions for credit: Obligatory participation in laboratory exercises. In general 4 laboratory exercises are assessed max. 5 points, i. e. max. 20 points from laboratory exercises. Obligatory finishing of 2 tests in regular term. Test is assessed max. 10 points, i. e. max. 20 points from tests. At repetition test is assessed only 80% achieved points. Student can obtain from exercises max. 40 points, for conferment inclusion it is necessary achieve min. 25 points.

Lectures: Mechanics and kinematics of electrical drives Warming and energetics of electrical drives Technical means for control of electrical drives Converters for DC motors supply DC motor drives Converters for AC motors supply Drives with asynchronous motors Drives with synchronous motors Drives with step motors Drives with switched reluctance motors Drives with electronically commutated motors Electrical drives in automobiles Modern methods of analysis and synthesis of electrical drives Future of electrical drives Exercises: The safety for working in laboratories, content of exercises, conditions for credits. Determination of moment of inertia Determination of moments and power output of machines, loading diagrams of machines, examples from mechanics of electrical drives Examples from warming of electrical drives Examples of DC drives, Structures of drives with Leonard rotary converter, controlled rectifier and pulse converter TEST No.1. Examples of drives with DC series motors, drives with induction motors Examples of drives with induction motors Braking of induction motors, frequency control of induction motors TEST No.2. Examples of regulation circuits with electrical drives Repetition, tuition, revisions of tests, duplicate laboratory example Laboratories: Electromechanical transient processes. Warming of machine for different kinds of loading. Structures with separately excited DC motors. Behaviour of electrical drive with induction motor fed by a frequency converter.
