Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The target of this subject is getting a theoretical knowledge of electrical drives and practical experiences from their applications. Gained pieces of knowledge make a part of general knowledge of electrical engineer, especially concentrated on applications of electrical drives.

Teaching methods

Summary

The subject focuses on the basic knowledge of principles, design and operations of electrical drives. The prerequisites would be courses on electronics, power electronics and electrical drives.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: Kinematics and mechanics of electrical drives. Warming and energetics of electrical drives. Characteristics of electrical drives with Leonard's rotary converter, controlled rectifiers and DC/DC converters. Mathematical models of separately excited DC motor, DC series motor and converters. Structures of DC drives with controlled rectifiers and DC/DC converters. Characteristicd of AC drives with induction motor, electrical shaft. Frequncy control of induction motors. Characteristics of AC drives with synchronous motors. Structures of AC drives. Vector control of AC drives. Analyse and synthesis of regulation drives . Regulation of speed and position of DC drives. Regulation of speed and position of AC drives with induction motors. Regulation of speed and position of AC drives with synchronous motors. Exercises: The safety for working in laboratories, content of exercises, conditions for credits. Determination of moment of inertia. Determination of moments and power output of machines, loading diagrams of machines, examples from mechanics of electrical drives. Examples from warming of electrical drives. Examples of DC drives, structures of drives with Leonard's rotary converter and controlled rectifier. TEST No.1. Examples of drives with DC series motors, drives with induction motors. TEST No.2. Rotor voltage control of induction motor, differential connection of induction motors. Braking of induction motors, frequency control of induction motors. Examples of regulation circuits with electrical drives. TEST No.3. Repetition, tuition, revisions of tests, duplicate laboratory example. Laboratories: Electromechanical transient processes. Warming of machine for different kinds of loading. Structures with separately excited DC motors. Differential connection of induction motors. Control of drive by switching logic. Torque characteristic of induction motor in braking modes.
