Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Intention of the course is to get the theoretical knowledge about construction of semiconductor converters and practical experience with their design and application. Acquired knowledge create part of the general knowledge of an electrical engineer, especially if he is specialized in development and applications of power electronic systems.

Teaching methods

Summary

The course gives a special information about construction principles of the basic types of semiconductor converters. It is necessary for solving the practical problems from power semiconductors area.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: Design of power semiconductor systems. Design of cooling systems. Design of passive power parts. Principle of converter protection, design of protection systems. Problems with placing the parts in regard of electromagnetic interference and the heat influence to each other. Reliability and diagnostic of semiconductor converters. Design of foreign semiconductor converters. Development tendencies of semiconductor converter systems.
