Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The target of this subject is getting a theoretical knowledge from modelling and simulation of electrical drives and practical experiences from their applications. Gained pieces of knowledge make a part of general knowledge of electrical engineer, especially concentrated on applications of electrical drives.

Teaching methods

Summary

The subject focuses on the modelling and simulation of electrical drives on the computer. For simulations of transient processes is used software called MATLAB with SIMULINK. The prerequisites would be courses on power electronics, electrical machines and electrical drives.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: Mathematical models of: DC machines, induction motor, synchronous motors. Means their simulation. Methods for modelling and simulation of cycloconverter. Methods of modelling and simulation of DC/DC converter. Methods of modelling and simulation of frequency converter with voltage-source inverter controlled by and without PWM and with current-source inverter. Methods of modelling and simulation of other elements of regulation structures: analog and digital controllers, probes, A/D, D/A converters. Modelling and simulation of regulation structures with separately excited DC motor. Modelling and simulation of regulation structures with induction motor supplied by voltage-source inverter. Modelling and simulation of regulation structures with induction motor supplied by current-source inverter. Modelling and simulation of regulation structure with switched reluctance motor.
