Learning to work with the methodology of research for the needs of research and professional work in engineering and medical sciences. Learning to formulate, propose and implement the process of Scientific Research and properly present the results obtained.

Summary

The course is part of the complex subject of teaching of professional skills. Students will learn the basics of critical - scientific thinking: understanding the needs and importance of the scientific approach in medical practice (evidence-based practice). They learn the basic steps of the research process, the selection of appropriate methods, processing and evaluation of results.

•Jordan R. R.: Academic Writing Course - New Edition. Nelson, Walton-on-Thames, 2002.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

A. The processing of any given individual tasks and submission deadlines teacher. B. Presentation given independent work of students in front of group instructions lecturer and teacher at set deadlines. Compliance with the two points (A) and (B) is a necessary condition for obtaining credit, requiring student participation in lessons, the presentations and in seminars throughout the semester. This method of teaching can not be caused by any failure to replace and conditions during the semester in required deadlines can not be subsequently replaced in any form! It is required mandatory participation in seminars at least 80% from past lessons.

Subject syllabus:

Syllabus of lectures: 1.Definition science. Scientific knowledge. Characteristic features of modern science. Types of research. Research in health care. 2.Terminology science and research. Financial and legislative context in scientific research. 3.The definition of the concept of research and its species. Principles of experimentation in technology and medicine. 4.Science, scientific approach, the scientific method, scientific theory. Basic and applied research, and their specific requirements. financing options 5. Introducton to the research process, goals, opportunities, legislation, accessibility, practical information. 6.Research problems, research questions, research hypotheses. Types of clinical trials, randomized and nonrandomized studies, studies with crossover design and a factorial design, single, double and triple blind studies, open-label study. 7.Study sources and literature and information sources with regard to the availability of information, credibility and relevance of information. Electronic Resources research work. search on the Internet, in library catalogs in bibliographic systems. 8. Determintation research sample (file) 9.Methods and techniques of data collection, data analysis, data processing 10.Interpretaction of research results, presentation of scientific communication in terms of the way (multimedia, poster), content and form. 11.Ethical aspects of medical research. Ethics research studies, legislation, ethics committee, informed consent, good practice. 12.Basic characteristics and the concept of scientific communication. The requirements and structure for abstracts, scientific papers, conferences, journal publications 13.Divergence creation of professional communication in Czech and English, typographical, 14.Citation, protection of intellectual property, patents and utility models, patent literature, and its availability in biomedical research
