The goal of this course is to educate students with different types of systems for data measurement, data processing, with features of such systems, with programming possibilities of such systems and with typical applications.

Summary

Following the VI1 and VI2 courses students will deepen the skills of using multifunctional data acquisition boards, get familiar with communication with measuring instruments, creation and use of instrument drivers, get familiar with the details of the GPIB, LXI communication interfaces, get familiar with flexible platforms for measurement and (VME, VXI, PXI), get familiar with the embedded platform for measuring, testing and managing compactRIO, gain experience with the design and implementation of a comprehensive automated measuring and testing systems.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: 1. Multifunctional Data Acquisition boards, structures and principles. AD converters, types, fundamental parameters. 2. Data Acquisition boards support in Windows OS. How to access and work with DAQ boards inside LabVIEW. 3. DAQ boards with A/D converter. A/D converter parameters and modes. 4. DAQ boards with digital input and outputs. Software and hardware timing. 5. DAQ boards with timers and counters. Timer and counters parameters and modes. 6. How to communicate with measurement instruments. SCPI language structure, syntax, basic commands. 7. Instrument drivers according to VXI P&P standard, ID structure, internal external model. 8. IVI instrument drivers. Instrument interchangeability, class driver, specific driver. 9. Interfaces for communication with instruments. Interface structure and definition, transmition parameters, interconnection, synchronization, structure of transmitted data, interface throughput, GPIB, LXI. 10. VME, VXI, PXI instruments, structure, addressing, timing, throughput. 11. TCPIP protocol, DataSocket for application to application communication. Web server, distributed measurement systems, client-server application. 12. Embedded system development in graphical programming environment. Support of FPGA and cRIO. 13. Real-time systems in graphical programming environment. Laboratories: 1. Brief repetition of the principles work in a graphical programming environment 2. Basic approaches to the analog inputs on the card collecting data in a graphical programming environment. 3. Working with analog outputs in graphical programming environment. 4. Operating the digital inputs and outputs in a graphical programming environment. 5. Work with counters and timers in a graphical programming environment. Entering semester project 6. Formatting text strings to create commands for the device in a graphical programming environment. 7. Communication with the device in a graphical programming environment. 8. Development of utility for DMM, PA. 9. Development of utility for the FG, SCOPE. 10. Using VXI P & P utilities for measuring instruments in general test application in a graphical programming environment. 11. Using VXI P & P utilities for measuring instruments in general test application in a graphical programming environment. 12. Implementation of data between applications using the TCP / IP, DataSocket
