Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The goal is to focus on special medical therapeutic equipment - hemodialysis technology. The benefit of this course is to acquire knowledge and familiarization with the biophysical principles and using these devices in clinical use. Course content complements the basic knowledge of medical electrical equipment in the field of study of biomedical engineering.

Summary

The first part of the course focuses on the biophysical principles and their technical application. This is essentially a principle of metabolism, extracorporeal circulation, and implemention of technology for hemodialysis solutions, including. water treatment based on reverse osmosis. Also included are special procedures for a higher level disinfection and cleaning procedures. It is clarified the issue of biocompatibility, special methods of sterilization of blood (haemofiltration) and technical principles of hemodialysis instrumentation (blood pumps, flow gear pumps, sensors, etc.).
