To understand the importance of hygiene and epidemiology for a human’s health. To understand the organization and the task of hygienic service and its practical activity. To understand the basics of epidemiological work practice.

Summary

The subject introduces basics knowledge of hygienic and epidemiology as a scientific fields focused at health prevention.

Compulsory literature:

World Cancer Research Fund. Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective. 2007.

Recommended literature:

Journal of hygiene, epidemiology, microbiology and immunology. Prague : SZDN, ISSN 0022-1732 .

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Credit will be awarded for participation in the teaching and successful control test

Subject syllabus:

- Hygiene and Epidemiology as a preventive disciplines. Definitions, contents and tasks. - Supervision and monitoring, preventive hygiene and regular supervision. Principles of primary and secondary prevention. - Determinants of health, their presence in living and working environment, methods of health. - Basic environmental health. - Indoor environment. - Occupational hygiene and occupational medicine. The definition and content, risk factors, working environment. Methods of assessing risk in the working environment. Occupational medical care.
