Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

To inform students about electromagnetic disturbance and with possible ways of its elimination. After subject graduation the student will be able to identify, outline and decode disturbing influences in electrical networks and to interprete measured results in relation to valid standards and rules including of solving finding for disturbance elimination and their comparing.

Student will be informed about special terminology and basic definitions and with kinds of disturbances. Rules and standards of EMC are also included into subject contents and also possible ways of active and passive elimination of disturbances.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Short enter tests before starting of each laboratory measurement to examine of student readiness to make measurement Reports from each measurement processed on the base of measured values from these measurements and their subsequent processing, completing and assessing. Continuous verifying of student knowledge in the numerical exercises in a form of debate and inquiries to achieve student active participations in study process. Identify, deduce and search of problem solving and their interpretation by students. Tests from numerical exercises, eventually from chosen theoretical circuits Term project on a given theme on the basis of selection, investigation, ordering and final compilation of facts and their processing into final form of given theme.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: Basic conception definitions. Special terminology. Standardization and legislation in the area of EMC Kinds of electromagnetic disturbance Harmonics and their influence on electrical devices Measurements and evaluation of harmonics Sources and propagation of harmonics Negative effects of harmonics, standards with harmonics levels Reverse influences of semiconductors convertors on mains Possibilities of harmonics reduction Passive filters, multi-pulses rectifiers Output filters at frequency convertor, active filters Fluctuation, drops and interruption of voltage Voltage unbalance, possibilities for its reduction Impulse disturbances High-frequency disturbances, high-frequency filters Exercises: Preliminary exercise, information about basic standards in EMC Fourier analysis. Analysators of electric networks Simulation programm EMTP-ATP Simulation models in EMTP-ATP programm. Individual project submission Programm for harmonic analyse Design of harmonic filters Final exercise, credit Laboratories: To get information about laboratory rules, presentation of measurement technique for measuring an evaluation of disturbances Measuring and evaluation of harmonics of non-linear one phase appliances Measuring and evaluation of harmonics of non-linear three phase appliances Measuring and evaluation of harmonics of appliances with multi-pulses rectifiers Measuring and evaluation of harmonics within using passive filter Measuring and evaluation of voltage fluctuation, drop and unbalance Measuring high-frequency disturbance Projects: Individual assignment of parameters of network and appliance Design of harmonic reduction device and its parameters Compilation of simulation circuit Evaluation of harmonics in connection with standards
