In the course logic control system and programmable controllers (PLC) student learn to use PLC's in control of industrial and other processes. The main aim of the course is to acquaint students with possibilities of PLC's, with characteristic of their modifications and give them good knowledge of some chosen types. After passing the course students have the main knowledge with programmable logic controllers. Students get practical skills with three types of commonly used PLC's. They are able to choose right PLC type for certain application and develop control program. After passing the course students have the main knowledge with programmable logic controllers. Teaching methods

Summary

In the course logic control system and programmable controllers (PLC) student learn to use PLC's in control of industrial and other processes. The main aim of the course is to acquaint students with possibilities of PLC's, with characteristic of their modifications and give them good knowledge of some chosen types. After passing the course students have the main knowledge with programmable logic controllers. Students get practical skills with three types of commonly used PLC's. They are able to choose right PLC type for certain application and develop control program. Programmable logic controllers are most used industrial control system today. Good knowledge of this field of automation is necessary for students in the study branch of Measurement and Control Systems. Lectures are attended to programmable logic controller technique, IEC 61131 standard, methodology of control system analysis and design, development of control program and also using some special functions of PLC's. Practical exercises are hold in well-equipped laboratory. Students works with Siemens Simatic S7, S5, Tecomat, Modicon and other PLC's. Students develop control programs for logic, sequential control but also for PID control, interrupt processing. Students solve two protocols and one main work within the term.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Verification of study: The students pass the test in 10th week. Students present their programs continuously within the term. Conditions for credit: Condition for giving credit is to obtain at least 20p. in term.

Lectures: Logic control and technological process. Methodology of control system design. Programmable logic controllers Siemens Simatic S7. Programmable controllers Simatic S7 300, programming of logic functions. Programmable logic controllers Siemens Simatic S7 300, extended instruction set. Creation of control system algorithm. Definition of control aims. IEC 61131 standard and its parts. Benefits of using this standard. Sequential processes programming tools. IEC 61131-3 programming, textual and graphical languages. Programmable logic controllers Bernecker-Rainer, programming basics, programming languages, programming of logic functions. Programmable logic controllers Bernecker-Rainer, analog I/O, communication posibilities. Complex functions programming using IEC 61131-3 standard. Using IEC 61131-3 standard in Simatic S7 and Bernecker-Rainer programming. Programmable logic controllers Tecomat TC600, basic of programming. Programmable logic controllers Tecomat TC600, programming - continuation. Closed-loop algorithms programming. Interrupt processing. Real-time control. Communication between PLC systems.
