The goal is to provide basic orientation in a very broad issue of data compression.

Summary

The following topics are discussed: Theory of information, modeling and coding, Huffman coding, arithmetics coding, Dictionary techniques, LZ77. LZSS, LZ78, LZFG, LZW, LZMW, LZAP approach, vector quantization. wavelet-based coding.

Přednášky: Informace a kódování. Informační obsah zprávy.Jednotky informace. Entropie. Statistické metody komprese. Huffmanovo kódování. Aritmetické kódování. Aritmetické kódování s použitím celých čísel. Metoda konečného kontextu (PPM). Slovníkové metody. LZ77. Metody LZSS, LZ78, LZFG, LZW, LZMW, LZAP. Prediktivní kódování. Komprese blokovým tříděním. Matematické základy ztrátové komprese. Kvantování skalárů. Kvantování vektorů. Komprese pomocí waveletové transformace. JPEG 2000. Komprese videa. Komprese a vyhledávání. Slovní metody komprese. Informace o standardech. MPEG-4, MPEG-7. Projekty: Téma projektu bude zadáno na začátku semestru.
