Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The goal of this subject is to offer basic knowledge of the Information technology domain. Students obtain overview of basic area of IT, they will be able to recognize, define and outline areas and their features. This knowledge should be usefull for next study. Practically, the skills of students will be presented in the development of their own web sites, processing of electronic documents of different formats and functions aimed at obtaining knowledge of the type of Unix OS to the user level. At the end of this subject the student will be able to create basic electronic documents and move within and use the infrastructure of the school network. Also, they will be able to define IT areas and their fundamental topics or terms.

Teaching methods

Summary

In this lecture students learn basic informations, needed in their following studium. Students will learn work with school net TUONET, they will get informations about creating web pages and electronic publications, they will learn about OS Unix's user interface.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: The faculty and school networks, the rules of their use. use of computer networks TUONET. Networking technology operating in TUONETu. TUONETu Connecting to the Internet. Web site. Principles of operation and the creation of a web site, the standard language of html, styles. Electronic Publishing. Preparing documents. The basic rules of computer rates. Programming languages. The basic division of programming languages, processing program. Information systems and databases. Samples IS the Web interface, thin and thick client. Operating systems based on UNIX specifications. The basic architecture and properties. Comparison with Windows operating systems. Computer Graphics and its possibilities. Addressing the fundamental problems (generating elementary graphic services, the standard image tools sw). Making pictures. Saving files on the computer, transmission networks. Arrangements for digital image. Principles of software engineering. Projects, management and implementation. Projects: The projects are concerned with the tasks of making and word processing usual manner in electronic form. One of the project is also aimed at personal presentations of students. Projects shall be handed over dates for the beginning of the semester. Computer labs: Exercises are aimed to acquire practical experience with the technologies for creating electronic documents as the Unix OS environment.
