Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The student who pass this course will be able to work with the three most widespread database systems (DB2, Oracle, MS SQL Server) and efectively utilize their features. The database system start, configuration and common administration is explained and tried practicaly on an accessible hardware. Students will be able to tune the performance of databases running on a database system and detect possible problems. - DB2, Oracle, MS SQL Server intorduction. - Database enviroment, Load balancing. - Initialization and configuration of one instance of an database system. - Database tuning. - Physical database design. - Special database types. OLAP, data warehouse. - Tools for an automatic database design.

Summary

The main topic of this course is the administration of the most widespread database system (DB2, Oracle, MS SQL Server). The course is focused on general aspects of these products and also on their specified features. The first part will focus on a database startup and settings. The second part will focus on a database tuning.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Students will have to solve problems during the exercises and show the understanding of the DBMS administration. The problems will be available before the exercise.
