Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The course aims at introducing the students in fundamentals of functional analysis. In order to solve a number of technical problems, it is necesarry to master this (rather technical) discipline.

Summary

Within the course the students will be introduced in fundamental notions of functional analysis, which is a subject unifying results and methods of many classical mathematical disciplines (algebra, geometry, calculus). It identifies and emphasizes what they have in common and, further, it generalizes them. Functional analysis is involved in various parts of mathematics and its applications and it provides tools enabling to formulate as well as solve complex practical problems. The introduced abstract notions will be demonstrated at examples and applications.

Subject syllabus:

Přednášky: Metrický prostor. Úplný metrický prostor. Banachova věta o pevném bodě. Banachův prostor. Lineární funkcionály. Slabá konvergence. Hilbertův prostor. Rieszova věta o reprezentaci. Operátory v Banachových a Hilbertových prostorech. Gateauxův diferenciál a derivace. Fréchetův diferenciál a derivace. Extrémy a kritické body funkcionálů. Cvičení: Opakování vektorových prostorů. Příklady metrických prostorů. Vyšetřování konvergence posloupností v metrických prostorech. Cauchyovské posloupnosti v úplných a v neúplných metrických prostorech. Banachova věta o pevném bodě - její aplikace při řešení různých problémů. Příklady Banachových prostorů. Prostory funkcí. Lineární funkcionály a jejich spojitost, vliv dimenze prostoru. Vztah slabé a silné konvergence. Skalární součiny. Hilbertův prostor. Fourierovy řady. Rieszova věta o reprezentaci - přiklad její užitečnosti. Operátory v Banachových a Hilbertových prostorech. Derivace funkcionálů a operátorů obecně. Vzájemný vztah Fréchetovy a Gateauxovy derivace. Extrémy a kritické body funkcionálů. Projekty: Projekty zadávané studentům obsahují sady standardních úloh k procvičení látky.
