Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The goal of the subject is to introduce students to the modern datacenter and supercomputer architecture, their current hardware requirements and the evolution in the near future. Student obtains an overview above a present and future architectures of the datacenter. Usage of the datacenter in virtual services environment and in case of the solving of the computationally intensive problems. Also the problematic of benchmarks of the highperformance computers are introduced.

Summary

The modern processor architectures used in today supercomputers are introduced within the first part of the subject. This part contained introduction into the instruction level parallelism, multithread and multicore CPU and other helpfull computational accelerators like GPU. The second part describes datacenter and supercomputer architecture with the focus on their components and the cooperation between the components. There are discused issues of datacenter node, technologies for their interconnection and their selection based on the data center specialization. Geografical location and energy consuption of the data center are discussed in brief.
