Summary

Students will be acquainted with specific interesting examples / cases of patients, mechanisms of disease development and progression, will learn about the importance of identifying new biomarkers, designing treatment strategies and the key role of personalized medicine. The topics will focus on the individualization of therapy from a history of subjective and objective symptoms to a diagnosis of the disease. Also, the topics will focus on improvement of treatment approaches by implementing other disciplines that bring new knowledge about the etiopathogenesis, the origin and the development of the disease.

Compulsory literature:

• El-Khamisy S. Personalised Medicine (2017), Springer, New York • Tutton R. Genomics and the Reimagining of Personalized Medicine (2014), Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group, Boca Raton, Florida • Pritchard, D.E. et al. Strategies for integrating personalized madicine into healthcare practice. 2017. Per Med. • Zima T. Laboratorní diagnostika (2013), Galén.

Recommended literature:

• Potůček J. Základy personalizované medicíny (2016), CVUT Praha

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Continuous monitoring of study activities and assigned tasks during regular consultations. If some publication activity will be a part of the student's tasks, the relevant article would be presented in the course. Oral exam.
