The study subject is the 4th part of the basic physics course, focused on atomic and nuclear physics.

Recommended literature:

FEYNMAN, R. P., LEIGHTON, R. B., SANDS M.: The Feynman lectures on physics, Addison-Wesley 1966.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Two written tests during semester.

Subject syllabus:

) Atomic physics: Special relativity (Lorentz transformation and its consequences, relativistic energy and momentum). Blackbody radiation, photoelectric effect, Compton effect. Thomson and Rutherford models of an atom, electron cloud, atomic spectra. X-rays. Particle-wave duality. Bohr model of hydrogen-like atoms. 2) Nuclear physics: Basic characteristics of atomic nuclei. Radioactivity and nuclear reactions. Nuclear analytical methods. Elementary particles and fundamental interactions. Acceleration and detection of particles.
