Collect the basic principles and laws of the chosen parts of mathematics, physics, chemical physics and materials Describe, clarify and adopt the methods of vacuum generation and characterization, and fundamentals of construction of vacuum and cryogenic systems as well Illustrate obtained knowledge in solving the practice problems

Summary

The subject is related to the student's knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemical physics and materials. Student will learn the methods of obtaining and evaluating vacuum, vacuum design basics and cryogenic systems, methods of maintenance and operation. The aim of the subject is to enrich the professional profile of a student who will be working as a technologist or engineer of technology in the field of nanotechnology.

Subject syllabus:

1. Introduction: Importance and use of vacuum and cryogenic technique. Vacuum ranges. 2. Free gases: In a static state. Ina dynamic state - gas diffusion and effusion, gas internal friction, energy transport. Gas flows - kinds and characteristic quantities, vacuum conductance, pumping speed. 3. Bound gases: On the surface - physical and chemical adsorption, characteristic quantities. Evaporation and condensation - steam tension. Gases in solids - gas solution and diffusion. 4. Vacuum acquisition: mechanical, steam and diffusion pumps - characteristics, construction. Connection of diffusion and rotary pump. Cryosorption, sorption and iont pumps, characteristics and construction. 5. Vacuum measurement: Absolute measurement methods. Indirect measurement methods - thermal and ionization gauges. Calibration of gauges. Measurement of partial pressures. Leaks in vacuum systems - search methods, leak detectors. 6. Vacuum systems: Basic principles of construction of vacuum systems. Elements of vacuum devices - removable and fixed links. Materials for vacuum technique. 7. Methods and materials of cryogenic technique: physical properties, refrigerants, gas liquefaction, storage. 8. Cryogenic systems: design and construction, low-temperatures measurements.
