Describe, clarify and interpret fundamental principles of ray, wave and electromagnetic optics, apply the knowledge on problems in practice

Teaching methods

Summary

The lecture is devoted to the introduction to optics. It contains the geometrical optics, wave optics and basics of electromagnetic optics. As the prerequisity, the Physics II course (mainly oriented on basic aspects of electricity and magnetism) is recommended.

Subject syllabus:

PAPRSKOVÁ OPTIKA: - postuláty paprskové optiky, rozbor jednoduchých optických prvků - optika gradientních prostředí, maticový formalismus paprskové optiky. VLNOVÁ OPTIKA: - postuláty vlnové optiky, monochromatické vlny, souvislost s paprskovou optikou - popis jednoduchých optických prvků v rámci vlnové optiky - interference monochromatického světla - polychromatické světlo a teorie koherence - přibližná řešení vlnové rovnice, opticka svazků (Gaussovy, Besselovy, Laguerovy svazky) - difrakce světla, Fresnelovo a Fraunhoferovo přiblížení, difrakce na aperturách a na mřížce. ELEKTROMAGNETICKÁ OPTIKA: - elektromagnetická teorie světla, Maxwellovy rovnice, vlnová rovnice, hraniční podmínky - klasifikace optických prostředí podle materiálových vztahů, role tenzorů permitivity a permeability - monochromatické vlny, základní typy řešení vlnové rovnice (rovinné a sférické vlny) - absorpce a disperze, šíření vln a světelných impulsů v disperzních prostředích - šíření světla v absorbujícím prostředí, neuniformní vlny - polarizace světla, maticový (Jonesův) formalismus, maticová reprezentace jednoduchých polarizačních. zařízení - odraz a lom na rozhraní v rámci elektromagnetické optiky, spojitost polí - optika anizotropních prostředí, spontání a vynucená anozotropie, polarizační prvky z anizotropních materiálů úvod do nelineární optiky.
