Summary

The aim of the subject is to present the basic common description of the material continuum, emphasising the insight into common features of all continuum types. Based on this knowledge the specific features of particular continuum types, both linear and non-linear ones, are considered. The essentials of the thermodynamic coupling influence on the continuum properties and behaviour and electrodynamic analogy are analysed as well, including some practical examples. The extent of individual themes is modified according to the professional specialization of the students.
