Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The subject extends knowledge of applied physics in the area of material magnetism. Main objective is to summarize measuring methods (SQUID, MOKE, AFM/MFM, VSM et al.) that are presently used in the investigation of soft and hard magnetic materials applied in the field of spintronics, electronics, sensors, and magnetic recording. Theoretical education will be supplemented by the practical measurements performed at experimental set-ups located in the research laboratories of VŠB-TUO.

Summary

The subject will be focused on the methods used for measuring of magnetic materials. In general they can be divided into the following three categories: 1) Methods dependent on the change of material properties (Hall effect, magnetostriction, magnetooptics) 2) Force methods (torsion magnetometer, AFM/MFM etc.) 3) Inductive methods (stationary coil, SQUID, VSM)
