Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The goal is to: - teach students to recognize the basic types of minerals and rocks; - adoption of essential features of structure and development of the Earth; - understanding of the geological cycle; - understanding the basic principles of the endogenous and exogenous geological processes.

Introduction to geology, the role of geology in civil engineering. Rock forming minerals. Igneous rock structure, basic types of plutonic rocks. Sedimentary rocks. Metamorphic rocks. Rocks in civil engineering. Layer, strata. Structural geology. Deformations. Tectonic structures. Earthquakes. Exogenetic dynamics. Weathering products. Slope movements. Basic hydrogeology. Regional geology of Czech Republic.
