Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Knowledge and comprehension of genesis and classification of rocks. Recognize and describe rock textures and structures. Students should learn: Collect fundamentals of research and classification of rocks Describe, clarify and interpret processes of rock cycle Apply analytical methods to describe rocks Ilustrate knowledge in simple examples of utilization of rock

Summary

Petrology - the object of interest, the Earth crust and its chemical composition, processes of rock formation, genetic criteria of basic rock classification. Regularities of the origin of igneous rocks, classification principles on the basis of phase (mineral) composition and chemical composition of rocks. The role of magmatic rocks for basic and applied geological research. Sedimentary rocks – origin,classification of sediments. The genesis of metamorphic rocks, physical and chemical factors participating in metamorphic processes. Classifications of metamorphic rocks.

Subject syllabus:

- Vymezení objektu zájmu, zemská kůra a její chemické složení, procesy vzniku hornin. -Horninotvorné minerály. - Obecné zákonitosti vzniku vyvřelých hornin, klasifikační principy. - Struktury, textury vyvřelých hornin, horniny s podstatným množstvím křemene. - Vyvřelé horniny bez křemene a foidů, horniny a foidy. - Shrnutí poznatků o magmatických horninách a jejich význam pro základní a aplikovaný geologický výzkum. - Sedimentární horniny, úvod, procesy zvětrávání, transport, diageneze. - Struktury, textury klastických sedimentů a jejich klasifikace. - Struktury, textury cementačních sedimentů a jejich klasifikace. - Fyzikální a chemické faktory podílející se na metamorfních procesech. - Kontaktní, kaustická a šoková metamorfóza. - Regionální metamorfóza zonografie a metamorfní fácie. - Systém regionálně metamorfovaných hornin. - Migmatity a procesy spojené s natavováním či totálním tavením metamorfovaných hornin.
