Our intention is to provide a broad coverage of topics (see annotation of the course) in order to acquaint students with the basic principles of the subject taught and their practical applications.

Water in the rock environment, basic principles of groundwater accumulation and flow .
Overview of pollutants in groundwater – organic, inorganic pollutants, bacteriological contamination.
Transport of pollutants in groundwater – transport processes, advection, hydrodynamic dispersion, sorption, degradation.
Processes of natural attenuation - methodology of natural attenuation assessment on contaminated sites.
Exploration of pollution – methods for saturated zone, unsaturated zone, monitoring systems.
Groundwater protection principles – quantity and quality protection.
Protection zones of drinking water – mineral water protection, natural accumulation protection.
Remediation of groundwater – Passive and active methods, saturated and unsaturated zone.
Risk analyses – methodology.
Legislation in groundwater and surface water protection. Implementation of EU Water Framework Directive 2000/60/ES.
