Summary

The course is devoted to the basics of environmental sedimentology. Students will learn the basic principles of classification of sediments. A substantial part is devoted to an overview of individual sedimentation environments and genetic types of sediments. It includes the stratigraphic significance of sediments.

Co-requisities

Subject has no co-requisities.

Subject syllabus:

1. Sedimentary textures – grain size (classification) 2. Sedimentary structures – stratification and bedforms (bedding, bedforms, cross-lamination, irregularstratification), bedding-plane markings 3. Continental environments: characteristic and type of sediments of aeolian deposits, alluvial fans, fluvial and floodplains, lakes, glacial 4. Marginal marine environments: beach, barrie risland, estuaria, lagoons, tidalflats 5. Marine environments: siliciclastic shelf, deep-water, carbonate and environments. (in all environments characteristic of sedimentation, place of origin, nature of the sedimentary bodies)
