Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The utilization of knowledge and application of natural relations from geochemical behaviour of elements in Earth crust in to the areas influenced by antropgenic activity. Understanding of the principles of risk elements during thermic processes by the waste processing. Identification areas of contamination in surroundings of landfills and old ecological loads with utilization of geochemical models (SURFER).

Summary

Subject syllabus:

The determination of pollution in environment (determination of geochemical background, mobility of pollutants – causes and impacts. Heavy metals in environment (importance and ecotoxicity). Organic pollutants (main groups, the basic properties, coefficient KOW, KOC, the determination of biodegradability in anaerobic and aerobic environment). The mobile analytical methods for determination of pollutants in environment (water, soil and air pollution). The methodology for sampling of soils, water and wastes. Wastes (distribution, hazardous wastes. Technology for processing and utilization of wastes. Wastes form mine activity (Acid Mine Drainage, the basis technology for decontamination). Landfills (prospection, building, monitoring, the end of activity of landfills and reclamation). Old ecological loads (definition, methods for determination of old ecological loads, utilization of Czech database systems of old loads). Technology for decontamination of soils (biological methods). Technology for determination of soils (thermic methods). Technology for decontamination of soils (physico-chemical methods). Evaluation of environmental risks. Mass balance and modelling of behaviour of risk environments in industrial areas.
