Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The main goal of the subject is to make students acquainted with the basic methods of the technical exploratory works. The students must gain the basic knowledge, which makes them possible to define individual types of exploratory works, to describe them and outline the technical means and technological processes used during their realisation in drilling practice. The students must be able to relate them one another with respect to their advantage and disadvantage during their utilization in concrete conditions. On the basis of the acquired theoretical knowledge they have to demonstrate how to explain these basic technologies used by the realization of drilling works and to ilustrate the sphere of their utilization, using some practical examples. They must be able to apply their gained theoretical knowledge during the computation and practical tutorials, to find suitable processes by the solution of tasks dated up in these tutorials and to select their optimum varieties. The students must be able to analyse the knowledge gained within the frame of lectures and tutorials in their individual study and preparation for exams, to diferentiate between the important and unimportant information, to order it according to the importance degree for the purpose of encompassment of all study materials.

Summary

The subject gives basic information about exploratory methods used in drilling technical practice. The accent is expecially put on the exploratory drilling activities, used both for purposes of deposit geology and engineering geology, hydrogeology etc. The lectures are complemented with computation and practical tutorials (the visit of drilling working compartment, measurement using drilling machine). The student can complete their theoretical knowledge by this way. The subject is intent on there undermentioned thematic spheres. Basic methods of exploratory works. Geological mapping, geochemical methods, geophysical methods, mining exploration techniques, drilling exploration methods. Information acquired from exploratory boreholes, basic types of well samples, methods of their evaluation. Exploratory borehole kinds and drilling methods. Technical and technological equipment used in exploratory drilling – drilling units, drilling string, drilling tools, casing and cementation. Basic characteristics of borehole trajectory, borehole deviation and its influence on a quality of acquired information. Deviation causes – geological, technical and technological. Drilling mud – drilling muds used by realization of the technical exploratory, works. Properties of drilling mud and methods of their inspection. New trends in methods of exploration techniques.

Subject syllabus:

1. Úvod do problematiky – základní metody průzkumu. 2. Metody získávání informací průzkumnými pracemi. 3. Druhy vrtů a způsoby jejich provádění. 4. Vrtné soupravy, funkční celky, typy vrtných souprav. 5. Rozpojitelnost hornin při vrtání – definice rozpojitelnosti. 6. Vrtné nástroje – typy, konstrukce. 7. Vrtná kolona, sestavy vrtných kolon, vrtné nářadí. 8. Výplachové hospodářství – vlastnosti výplachu a jejich měření. 9. Konstrukce vrtů pro geologicko-průzkumné účely, cementace. 10. Druhy vzorků z průzkumných vrtů. 11. Základní prostorová charakteristika stvolu vrtu, příčiny křivení se vrtů, opatření. 12. Nové směry v technologii jádrového vrtání.
