Summary

Overview of pollutants in groundwater and soils– organic, inorganic pollutants, bacteriological contamination. Transport of pollutants in groundwater – transport processes, advection, hydrodynamic dispersion, sorption, degradation. Processes of natural attenuation - methodology of natural attenuation assessment on contaminated sites. Exploration of pollution – methods for saturated zone, unsaturated zone, monitoring systems. Groundwater protection principles – quantity and quality protection. Protection zones of drinking water – mineral water protection, natural accumulation protection. Remediation of groundwater – Passive and active methods, saturated and unsaturated zone. Risk analyses – methodology. Legislation in groundwater and surface water protection.

Compulsory literature:

Palmer Ch. M. (1992): Principles of contaminant hydrogeology. LEWIS Publishers, Inc. Appello C.A.J., Postma D. (1993): Geochemistry, groundawter and pollution. A.A. Balkema.

Recommended literature:
