Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Knowledge and comprehension of properties and utilizationation of minerals and rocks. Recognize and describe minerals rock textures and structures. Students should learn: Collect fundamentals of research of rocks and minerals. Describe, clarify and interpret processes of material cycle. Apply analytical methods to describe minerals and rocks. Ilustrate knowledge in examples of utilization of rock.

Summary

The definition of physical and chemical properties of “industrial” nonsilicate and silicate minerals. Technical utilisation of rocks. Criteria for the utilisation of rocks as crushed aggregate and ornamental stones. Primary and secondary raw materials for glass making and stoneware manufacturing. Petrositales as part of glass ceramics. Anthropogeneous deposits as a source of non-traditional raw materials in cement, building and other industries. Genetic types of coals, macropetrographical classification, micropetrographical classification, maceral groups, microlithotypes.

Subject syllabus:

· Přírodní a syntetické minerální fáze s ohledem na jejich možnosti využití v průmyslových odvětvích. Vztah mezi užitnou vlastností a fyzikálními a chemickými vlastnostmi minerálních fází. · Fyzikální a chemické vlastnosti nesilikátových průmyslových minerálů. · Fyzikální a chemické vlastnosti silikátových průmyslových minerálů. · Syntetické minerální fáze a jejich rostoucí význam při využití v průmyslových odvětvích (boridy, nitridy, karbidy, atd.) · Technické využití hornin ve stavebním průmyslu. Kriteria pro posouzení drceného kameniva, surovin a výrobků hrubé a ušlechtilé hornické výroby. · Primární a druhotné suroviny pro sklářský a keramický průmysl na bázi jílových minerálů. · Petrositaly jako významná součást sklokeramiky. Primární a druhotné surovinové zdroje. · Antropogenní uloženiny (průmyslové velkoobjemové odpady) jako zdroj netradičních surovin. · Produkty po spalování uhlí (popílky, popely a energosádrovec) jako druhotné suroviny v cementářském a stavebním průmyslu. Popílky jako potenciální zdroj hliníku a vybrané skupiny kovů. · Velkoobjemové odpady z hutního průmyslu jako významné druhotné suroviny pro získávání železa, zinku, kadmia atd. Vysokopecní strusky surovina pro cementářský průmysl, stavební průmysl a sklokeramiku · Uhelné litotypy. · Uhelné mikrolitotypy. · Uhelné macerály. · Stanovení technologických a vlastností uhelné hmoty. · Předpoklady vzniku uhelných slojí, procesy přeměny rostlinných látek v rašelinu, biochemická fáze, geochemická fáze · Genetické typy uhlí · Uhelné litotypy, makropetrografická klasifikace černého a hnědého uhlí · Mikrolitotypy, mikropetrografická klasifikace hnědého a černého uhlí · Chemicko – technologické analýzy uhelné hmoty, kód, obchodní skupina · Vztah těchto rozborů ke koksovacím vlastnostem uhlí · Texturní znaky koksů a uhlíkatých materiálů
