Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The subject is structured in the individual thematic issues and is designed to give students the thorough understanding of nature conservation and its modern methods. Main emphasis falls on system approach and mutual interactions of particular components of the landscape during the study of both common issues and individual protected areas.
After completing the course students should have the knowledge of the elementary (essential) ideas and understanding of both the important processes involved and role of all the other factors in nature conservation together with the historical and legislative context. They should be also able to use the holistic approach to the study of nature conservation with all its connections and relationships. Student should have propose methods of study of natural and cultural monuments.

History and legislative context of nature conservation in Czech republic and world. Basic terminology in nature conservation. Biogeographical principles of the nature conservation. Category of strict protected areas of the Czech Republic - their legal and administrative ensuring. The European ecological network (EECONET).
Transregional territorial system of ecological stability. Biosphere reserves
and the Ramsar Convention. Characteristics of 4 national parks and 24 protected
landscape areas in the Czech Republic (basic data, geology, climate, hydrology,
geomorphology, ecosystems, major anthropogenic impacts). Nature and landscape
protection in Slovakia. The organization of nature and landscape protection in world scale. Landscape character an legislative framework of its conservation.
