Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The main goal of this subject is to teach the students to outline and describe individual drilling technologies to carry out their comparison and explain these principles, which are used by their selection for various purposes of drilling works. The students must be able to discriminate the field of their utilization. They have to know how to utilize their theoretical knowledge, obtained by study of problems connected with drilling technologies and to achieve them to practice during their computation and practical tutorials, to point out the important problems in field of drilling works, to analyse these problems and run scheduled tasks in the form of papers on the basis of synthesis. Last but not least, the students should understand how to judge the importance of information which they gather in the course of study. They have to be able to conclude, compare and judge it, and to choose this one, which is most important for their next professional advancement.

Summary

The purpose of study of this subject is to give general information about technologies and technical means used in various varieties in drilling practice, especially these technologies which are used in geological, geotechnical, hydrogeological works and works in engineering geology etc. The main attention in the field of drilling technologies will be paid to these areas: exploratory drilling, drilling in quarries - blast hole drilling, drilling in construction building, water – well drilling and underground (mine) drilling. There are these three main types of drilling in the field of drilling technology – rotary, percussion and rotary – percussion drilling in these two variants – full-profile drilling and core drilling. The attention will be paid to the drilling machines, drilling and casing strings etc. Very important part of study will be focused to study of a new technologies of drilling, especially technique and technology of drilling using down – the – hole hammers. This technology represents one of the modern technologies, most used in drilling practice.
