Summary

Selected chapters from engineering geology dealing with selected parts of the of this important discipline of applied geology. Engineering geology is an applied discipline that examines and evaluates the interaction of the geological environment with engineering works. It is an interdisciplinary discipline boundary between natural and technical sciences. This means that it must be based not only on the knowledge of geology, petrology, hydrogeology, geological exploration methods, geomorphology, but also knowledge of geomechanics, geotechnical engineering, foundation engineering and other disciplines.

Compulsory literature:

Subject syllabus:

Introduction - the importance, purpose and use. Engineering and geological characteristics of rocks, the criteria for the classification of general and specific, descriptive links between the physical and technological properties. Principles of laboratory tests and evaluation. The rock environments and IG characteristics: geological structure, discontinuity, stress, hydrogeology and geomorphology conditions - influence the behavior of rock mass and strength, deformation and stability properties. Geodynamic phenomena and processes - a mechanism causes the risk - prediction, prevention, rehabilitation. Principles of multi-purpose and special purpose EG maps - the importance of recovery. General principles of assessment of foundation conditions. A short summary of regional EG conditions in relation to geological structure, geomorphology, hydrogeology and anthropogenic activities.
