Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the course is to make students familiar with current nontraditional methods of utilization of deposits. On the basis of obtained input knowledge, to carry out the critical analysis of individual methods of utilization and to propose – with taking economic factors and impact of activity on the surrounding environment into account – a suitable methodology for the conditions of the region and the Czech Republic. Theoretical study will be then directed especially towards the possibilities of extracting coalbed methane from coal seams at simultaneous CO2 geosequestration and towards the problem of liquid waste disposal by boreholes into depleted hydrocarbon deposits. To use work with data and prognoses in further professional activities.

Summary

Mining has a very long tradition on the territory of the Czech Republic in the order of many centuries. Even today, products obtained through the extractive industries serve as feedstock for a variety of very important industries, such as: energy, construction and construction materials industries, ceramics, glass, chemicals, and many other specific industries. The raw materials industry has a not inconsiderable multiplier effect in the national economy, so its real importance is significantly higher compared to the net benefit of the sector itself. As part of the overview of the specific use of mineral deposits, the subject also discusses underground leaching, gasification, use of CO2 etc.
