Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Knowledge and explanation how to recognise the common morphological features of the fossil plants and animals. Identification of the fossils in the paleontological system.

Summary

The course is devoted to the palaeontologicaly interesting organisms of the Earth history and stratigraphich applications. Explain the origin and preservation of fossils. Students are acquainted with basic systematic phytopaleontology, the importance of Protozoa and overview of the classification of Metazoa.

Subject syllabus:

Statigraphic scales. Biostratigraphic scale and its units. Continental deposits and a possible abundance of fossils in them. Particularities of the biostratigraphy of transition sedimentary environments. Biostratigraphy of marine sedimentary environments. Micropalaeontology. Micropaleontological techniques. Anoxie conditions. Possibilities of the employment of biostratigraphic methods in the Precambrian. Principles and possibilities of biostratigraphic subdivision of individual Phanerozoic formations.
