Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of this course is to acquaint students of master study with the elementary facts related to the rock environment of the Czech Republic and especially its protection. In this course, students will be acquainted with essential natural and anthropogenic factors and their importance in the assessment of the rock environment, directly related to the Bohemian Massif and the Outer Western Carpathians.

Summary

In this course, students will be acquainted with the main natural and anthropogenic effects of disruption of rock environment, soils, waters and biota.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

The knowledge is checked in the semester by means of a credit test and active participation in field trips. The course is completed by an examination, which may be scheduled having gained the initial credit. The examination is divided into a written and oral part.

Subject syllabus:

1) Importance of rock environment. 2) Evolution of rock environment. 3) Chemical and biochemical disturbance of the rock environment. 4) Contamination of the rock environment with trace elements. 5) Disturbance of the rock environment under/surface displacement of rocks and soils. 6) The impact of mineral mining on the rock environment. 7) The impact of uranium mining on the rock environment. 8) Natural radioactivity of the rock environment of Czech Republic and radon risk. 9) The impact of waste disposal on the rock environment. 10) The impact of mineral mining on water resources. 11) Relations between rock environment and atmosphere (atmospheric deposition) and biosphere. 12) Smoothing out the consequences of mining, reclamation, revitalization and remediation. 13) Securing and liquidation of old mines, professional and administrative protection of the rock environment.
