The aim is for students to be able to assess the effects of mining on the environment and define how to prevent negative impacts.

Summary

The course deals with the description of the environment and its components, the influence of mining on the individual components of the environment. Analysis of the mining operation leads to define which factors are more that are less essential and how they can be reduced. Furthermore, the subject deals with the remediation and reclamation areas affected by mining.

Subject syllabus:

1st Basic concepts, environmental legislation, organizational structure 2nd The impact of deep mining on the environment, the impact of mining activities on surface tips, settlement trough 3rd Effect on the landscape caused by surface mining and quarrying 4th Work environment and hygiene, physical properties and protection against adverse effects on health 5th Using a storage area for mine waste, waste disposal, recycling 6th Air pollution by mining and quarrying, scattering, separation of solid emissions 7th Disposal of mine water, waste water purification 8th Effects of environmental destruction caused by mining companies, old mine workings, methane 9th Fossil fuels, new energy sources, secondary energy sources 10th Risk to environment during the mining of uranium ore mining, chemical production, nuclear power, waste disposal 11th Transport of excavated materials, means of transport and their impact on the environment 12th Soil degradation, thermal desorption 13th Reclamation of land devastated by mining and quarrying
