Object of study is conversant of students with principles of flotation, understanding surface phenomena on interface of phases and possibilities their influencing by the help of flotation agents.

Předmět seznamuje studenty s podstatou flotační úpravy nerostných surovin.Vysvětluje povrchové jevy na rozhraní flotačních fází a možnosti jejich ovlivnění pomocí flotačních reagencií.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: 1. The essence of flotation and its focus. Historical development of flotation and an overview of current flotation research. 2. Structure and composition of phases in the flotation system. 2.1 The structure of solid phase, crystal-chemical mineral properties, ideal and real crystals. 2.2 Physical, chemical and electrochemical properties of solid phase. 3. Liquid phase - structure and properties of water and their impact on flotation. Minerals solubility and floatability. 4. Gaseous phase - air in the flotation process. Solubility of gases in water, development of microbubbles of gaseous phase in the flotation environment. 5. Interfaces and their mutual characteristics. 5.1. Liquid-gas phase interface. 2.5 Solid-gas phase interface. 3.5 Solid-liquid phase interface. 5.4 Three-phase contact – an elementary flotation act. Hysteresis phenomena. 6. Physical principles of flotation. 6.1. Study of motion of solid phase particles in a flotation environment. General diagram of forces connecting mineral grains and air bubbles, the balance equation. 6.2 The size of air bubbles and the size of grains in the flotation. 6.3 Probability of flotation and flotation kinetics. 7. Chemical principles of flotation. 7.1 Flotation reagents and mechanisms of their action. 7.2 Classification of flotation reagents and their characteristics. 7.3 Flotation collectors and their effect on the interface of solid-liquid phase. 7.4 Flotation frothers and their characteristics, their sorption in the liquid-gas phase interface. 7.5 Control reagents and mechanisms of their influence. 8. Flotation machines and equipment. Basic functional parameters. 8.1 Mechanical flotation machine - principles, functions, basic types. 8.2 Air flotation machine - principles, functions, basic types. 8.3 Pneumatic-mechanical (combined) flotation machine - principles, functions, basic types. 8.4 Other design of flotation machines, including types of development. 8.5 Auxiliary machinery equipment of flotation plants. 9. Technology of the flotation process. 9.1 Factors affecting the progress and real results of flotation. 9.2 Technological options and schemes of flotation. 9.3 Flotation of coal. 9.4 Flotation of sulfide and other ores. 9.5 Flotation of non-ore raw materials. 9.6 Flotation in a separation of the components of commercial waste. 9.7 Flotation in wastewater treatment. 10. Optimization, automation and intensification of the flotation process. 11. New directions in research and development of the flotation process. Seminars: 1. Flotation of black coal 2.
