Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the course is the application of basic knowledge of geomechanics and geotechnics, with the help of which students can assess the stability of mining works. An integral part of the course are the possibilities and methods of monitoring the stability of mining works.

Summary

The course deals with the stability of underground mine workings and rock walls during quarrying. First, the classification of the rock mass and the definition of limit states is discussed. Furthermore, students will learn to assess the stability of mining works, identify possible hazards and risks from data conducted by geotechnical survey and geotechnical monitoring. The conclusion of the course is devoted to proposals for appropriate stabilization of mine workings, including the proposal of appropriate additional monitoring.
