Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The course aims to acquaint students with the characteristics of the original stress and strain state of the rock mass and its changes in the excavation of mining works and subsequent mining. The student should use the knowledge from the subject of rock and soil mechanics for practical calculations with regard to the dimensioning of the dimensions of mines and reinforcements of mine workings, prediction of rock mass deformation or prognosis of anomalous phenomena.

Summary

The course is focused on the prediction of the behavior of the rock mass during mining, monitoring the manifestations of mining in the massif and ensuring the stability of mine workings and rock mass. The course discusses topics dealing with stress in the massif, methods of its determination and modeling. Knowledge of the stress-strain state of the massif is further used for dimensioning reinforcements and prediction of anomalous phenomena.
