Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Learning outcomes of the course unit The subject is aimed at deepening the knowledge of students in the field of measurement of movement and deformation of buildings and terrain for the purpose of evaluation of their stability.

Teaching methods

Terrain work

The Course presents a special application of geodetic methods for measuring displacements and deformations of objects with respect to achieving the required measurement accuracy. The course is to go through the measurement of displacements and deformations, an overview of measurement methods and interpretation of results.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: 1. Introduction to measurement theory of movements and deformations. 2. Allocation of unstable area and deformations in them. 3. Monitoring stations to measure in areas of subsidence. 4. Measuring of vertical movements.Determining heights by geometric leveling, hydrostatic leveling, trigonometrical leveling. 5. Methods for determining horizontal movements. Measuring with ordinatometer, oriented distance, polygon method, trigonometrical method. 6. Methods for determining space movements. Photogrammetry method, GNSS method. 7. Methods for determining the tilt, curvature and horizontal strain. 8. Time interval of movements measurements and deformations with respect to the dynamics of movements and deformations. 9. Monitoring station project to measure movements and deformations on unstable subsoil. Exercise: 1. Entering the measured results of the observation station for processing. 2. Determination heights of monitoring station points by precise leveling. 3. Processing - determine accuracy. 4. Locating points on a surveying line by ordinatometer. 5. Processing - determine accuracy. 6. Determination of the 3D coordinates of points on a surveying line by Total Station 7. Processing - determine accuracy. 8. Measurement of verticality of the column with two methods. 9. Project monitoring station according to set extraction parameters.
