Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The student will master basic knowledge of theoretical cartography including mathematical cartography and cartographic informatics. He will be ready to create, critically evaluate and use various types of cartographic works. They will gain a basic overview of national and world cartographic works of middle and small scales.
Using digital technologies, he / she can create mock-ups, construction sheets and design of maps sign.

Summary
Means of map representation (types, use, design and construction). Assigning meaning to a graphics unit. Content elements of the map face. Geometric basics of cartographic works. Cartographic representation of planimetry and altimetry, geonyms and cartographic meaning of the text. Cartographic generalization. Basic tasks of cartometry. Principles of creation of thematic cartographic works. Official (state) map works of medium and small scales. Cartographic informatics and its role in geoinformatics / geomatics. Cartographic works as a product and condition of European integration. World cartographic works.

1. Cartography as a scientific discipline (internal structure, subject of interest).
2. Geometric basics of cartographic works, map projections.
3. Content elements of map face.
4. Map language, types and creation of cartographic signs, map symbology, sign sets.
5. Methods of cartographic representation planimetric component of a map.
6. Methods of cartographic representation of altimetry.
7. Methods of cartographic representation of text. Geonyms.
8. Methods of cartographic generalization.
9. Basic tasks of cartometry, maps accuracy.
10. World and European cartographic works.
11. Czechoslovak / Czech cartographic works from 1918 - 1992.
12. State maps of the Czech Republic of medium and small scales.
13. National geodatabase systems.
14. National and world atlases and important thematic cartographic works.
