Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

TThe course is focused on the principles of space geodesy and its applications in the creation of global coordinate systems, models of the Earth's gravitational field, creation of the global geoid model and geodynamic and seismic applications.

Summary

The subject scope are celestial and terrestrial coordinate systems used in cosmic geodesy and transformation between them. Temporal systems in astronomy. Basics of undisturbed and disturbed satellite movement. Methods and equipment for astronomical determining of location. Methods of cosmic geodesy.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: 1. Keplerian motion 2. Motion of the artificial satellites in real Earth’s force field 3. Observing methods of space geodesy 4. Geodetic satellites 5. Solution of „inverse“ methods of satelite geodesy 6. Earth’s gravitational field models 7. Global coordinate systems ICRS and ITRS 8. Structure of IERS and its results Exercise: 1. Keplerian motion 2. Determination of the Earth’s obliquity from satelite motions 3. Altimetric geoid 4. Tectonic from satellites – motion of Earth’s tectonic plates 5. Determination of GNSS satelite position from broadcast ephemeris Question to examination: 1. Kepler laws, Keplerian motion 2. Motion of Earth’s satellite in real force field – changes of Keplerian elements due to Earth’s gravitational field, atmosphere and solar radiation pressure 3. Observing methods – photography, SLR, GNSS, DORIS, VLBI 4. „Historical“ geodetic satellites, new missions CHAMP, GRACE, GOCE 5. Solution of „inverse“ tasks of satellite geodesy 6. Earth gravitational field models 7. Global coordinates systems ICRS a ITRS – Observing methods, processing, transformation between both systems 8. Structure IERS and its results
