The knowledge demonstrated at the course completion: Knowledge of the main terms and methods in the area of Investment Decision Making and other economical context related to the area of Brownfield Remediation. The skills demonstrated at the course completion: Application of the gained skills in the real life environment, ability to present student's own opinions and argumentation concerning the topics covered during the course.

Summary

The objective of the course is to clarify the topic of Investment Decision Making in relation to realization of Brownfield Remediation Projects. Students will familiarize themselves with the planning process and formation process of these projects. Moreover, they will familiarize themselves with formation of the most important projects in the preliminary phase and with methods that are used in real practice when assessing the investment projects that are both comercial and beneficial to the general public. The gained theoretical scientific knowledge is applied and tested on real projects within the course.

Regular feedback on the progress of knowledge during the current term is provided by seminar works, presentations and written/oral exams.

For communication above a framework of presently realized assembly learning management system Moodle (lms.vsb.cz) is used. Through this system a communication between educators and students and students themselfs is enabled.

Subject syllabus:

1. Economical significance of the Brownfield Remediation, determination of basic terms. 2. Factors influencing the Brownfield Remediation. 3. Investment decision making in the area of Brownfield Remediation. 4. Funding resources for the Brownfield Remediation investment Projects. 5. Project – a tool for the execution of the Brownfield Remediation, project structure, project life cycle phases. 6. Opportunity study – its formation and structure when preparing the Brownfield Remediation Projects. 7. Feasibility study of the Brownfield Remediation Projects, its significance, content and structure. Methods of analysis used for Feasibility study formation (PEST analysis, SLEPT, Porter's model, SWOT) 8. Formation of the Feasibility study of the Brownfield Remediation: Description of the project fundamentals and its phases, market analysis, project management and human resources management, technical and technological solutions of the project, fixed asset coverage and working capital management. Project impact on the environment. 9. Formation of the Feasibility study of the Brownfield Remediation: Cost estimate for brownfields regeneration, determination of cash flow from the investment in both the realization and the operational phases. Financial plan of the project. 10. Formation of the Feasibility study of the Brownfield Remediation: Financial analysis – assessment of the financial effectivness of the project. Investment assessment methods. Selection of suitable criteria indicators for Brownfield Remediation Projects. Discount rate determination. Inflation in investment projects. 11. Cost – Benefit Analysis of the Brownfield Remediation Projects – significance, principle, usage. Methodology of the process. 12. Risk in Investment Projects, modern approaches to the risk. 13. Risk analysis. Methods of risk assessment of the Brownfield Remediation Projects.
