Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the subject is to clarify the application potential of augmented and virtual reality across the entire spectrum of human activities and to summarize their possibilities in various fields. Students will learn to define the basic concepts associated with these technologies and to classify different systems for creating their content. In the practical part of the course, students will be able to plan and practice developing their own applications that use augmented and virtual reality. Within this subject, students will identify practical and useful applications of these technologies, describe their role as a human/machine interface and apply their knowledge to new trends in Industry 4.0. Furthermore, they will learn to evaluate the effectiveness of these technologies in different contexts and present their results.

Summary

The aim of the subject is to clarify the application potential of augmented and virtual reality across the entire spectrum of human activities and to summarize their possibilities in various fields. Professional Knowledge The student defines and describes the fundamental principles and technologies of augmented (AR) and virtual (VR) reality for connecting physical and digital environments. The student characterizes and explains the photogrammetry method and its application in digitizing and creating 3D models from real-world objects. The student identifies and recognizes the software tools, formats, and pipelines required for reconstructing, optimizing, and integrating 3D assets into immersive applications. Professional Skills The student constructs and deploys functional augmented reality applications that merge physical environments with virtual elements. The student converts real-world objects into accurate 3D models using photogrammetry methods and tools. The student places, optimizes, and integrates captured 3D models into virtual reality applications to enhance user experience and project functionality. General Competencies The student explains and justifies the suitability of deploying AR, VR, and photogrammetry technologies for addressing specific technical and presentation tasks. The student distinguishes and critically evaluates the quality, limitations, and computational demands of digitized 3D models within interactive XR scenes. The student independently researches, selects, and applies appropriate spatial digitization workflows and immersive content development techniques.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Final written test, check of read literature, elaboration of semestral work. Writing and oral examine.

E-learning

For communication beyond in-person lectures and exercises, the Moodle learning management system (lms.vsb.cz) is used. This platform facilitates communication not only between the instructor and students but also among students themselves.

Other requirements

At least 70% attendance at the exercises. Absence, up to a maximum of 30%, must be excused and the apology must be accepted by the teacher (the teacher decides to recognize the reason for the excuse). Tasks assigned on the exercises must be hand in within the dates set by the teacher.
