Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Student shows knowledge: of basic concepts and definitions of the EU, of the importance,understanding and of the effects of the economic integration of the EU/EC, of microeconomic tools for the analysis of integration process of the EU/EC Student can: describe historical stages of development: towards to the creation of the European Union, describe policies, institutional development, legal instruments and the decision-making processes of the EU/EC, Student is able to: use microeconomic tools for the analysis of the economic integration of the EU/EC

Summary

Subject is concerned with integration of European Union. Students obtain theoretical and expert knowledge in the field of history, economics, policies and institutions of EU and of essentials of European law as well. They learn to use fundamental microeconomic instruments for analysis of economic integration.

Presentation of semestral project provides for regular feedback on the progress of knowledge during the current term.

Subject syllabus:

1. History of European integration I Establishment of European Communities, their development, progress of economical and of political integration, compendium of establishing treaties, phasing of historical development. 2. History of European integration II Significant historical events with impact on postwar development of Europe, Treaty of Dunkirk, Treaty of Brussels, establishment of NATO, of EDC, of Western Union, Messina Declaration, establishmnet of relevant organizations and their influence on future of Europe. 3. History of European integration III Process of enlargement, treaties of EC/EU and their revisions and amendments with implications for development of Europe to present period, ECSC, EEC, EURATOM, Single European Act, Treaty on European Union, Treaty of Amsterdam, Treaty of Nice and Treaty of Lisbon. 4. Organization and functioning of EU Institutions and bodies of EU, basic decision-making procedures, Commission, Council of the EU, European Parliament, European Ombudsman, European Economic and Social Committee, Committee of the Regions, European Council, European Court of Auditors, European Central Bank and European System of Central Banks, Court of Justice of the European Communities, composition of these Institutions, their roles, powers and importance in the structure of EU. 5. Essentials of European Law Sources of the law, types of legal acts of the EU, legal essentials of the EU rules, publication, entry into force, principles of the application of the EC law, judicial review and interpretation. 6. Policies of the EU/EC I Sources of EU policies and their creation, survey of the EU Policies, characteristic features, Single European Market, characteristic of the pillars of the SEM - free movement of goods, of services, and of capital, harmonisation of legal acts, Competition Policy, Single Customs Tariffs, effects of the SEM. 7. Policies of the EU/EC II European Monetary System, Economic and Monetary Union, characteristic features and its development, issues of the common currency. 8. Policies of the EU/EC III Common Agriculture Policy, its characterisics, objectives, instruments and development, reforms of agriculture policy, financing of the CAP and regulation of separate markets and prospects. 9. Policies of the EU/EC IV Industrial policy, objectives, classical and present approach, programmes of support, SME. 10. Policies of the EU/EC V Common Transport Policy, characteristics, measures realized in transport, specific features of particular types of the transport, legal regulation, trans-european networks (TEN), 11. Policies of the EU/EC VI Common Commercial Policy, characteristics, instruments, objectives, classification of the barriers of entering of market,antidumping, antisubsidization. 12. Policies of the EU/EC VII Regional and Structural Policy, principles, instruments and objectives of policies, Structural Funds and Cohesion Fund, fields of their intervention, financial allocation, alokace, objectives and application. 13. Policies of the EU/EC VIII Selected policies of the EU, Energy Policy, its characteristics, energy management, programmes for support of alternative sources, legal regulation, protection of living environment, principles, legal regulation.
