Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Students are able to distinguish between coaching and other types of help (mentoring, counselling, psychotherapy). Students understand the importance of ethics in the coaching profession. Students know of the basic coaching schools. Students are able to ask coaching questions.

Summary

The course aims to familiarize students with coaching as a rather new and progressive profession that has developed since the 1970s. It discusses the issues that coaching and psychotherapy have and do not have in common. Students learn about the developments in coaching schools, shall discuss the ethical aspects of working with clients, and experience the basic techniques arising from different coaching schools. Students learn to use coaching questions in communication, which they may find useful in the future.

1. What is coaching and what is not? Coaching, mentoring, training, consultancy – definitions. 2. History and evolution of coaching. 3. Is there a borderline between coaching and psychotherapy? What are the differences? 4. The ethical aspects of a contract with a client. International and Czech associations for coaches: ICF, AIK, EMCC. Code of Ethics. 5. Performance coaching, GROW model. 6. Systemic coaching, Solution coaching. 7. Mindful coaching. 8. Erickson coaching. 9. Inner Game. 10. Application of coaching – managment, coaching for performance, career coaching, life coaching. 11. Individual and team couching. Research in coaching. 12. Leadership and coaching in business. Couching contract. 13. The personality of a coach – education and personal traits. 14. Neurolinguistic programming.
