Teaching methods

Summary

The course deals in detail with the issue of mineral biotechnologies. The individual lectures focus on environmental biogenic processes, basic principles of mineral biotechnologies, biological-chemical methods of heavy metal recovery from industrial waste water, (bioaccumulation, biosorption, bioprecipitation), potential biological-chemical elimination of heavy metals from industrial waste water by sulphate-reducing bacteria. Application of sulphate-reducing bacteria and study of bacterial reduction of sulphates. Next, the course concentrates on the study of potential application of biogenic processes into technological procedures. syllabus 1. Occurrence and significance of metals 2. Water – its significance and water types 3. Biological-chemical methods of heavy metals elimination from industrial and waste water 4. Characteristics of biological mechanisms suitable for metal recovery 5. Bioaccumulation, biosorption, bioprecipitation 6. Characteristics of organisms for the biosorption process 7. Biosorption facilities and methods of biosorption and sorption 8. Technology utilizing the process of bioaccumulation 9. Technology utilizing the process of biosorption 10. Technology utilizing the process of bioprecipitation 11. Technology utilizing the process of volatilization 12. Hybrid intrabiotechnologies 13. Potential biological-chemical elimination of heavy metals from industrial waste water by means of sulphate-reducing bacteria 14. Biotechnologies and basic knowledge on bacterial properties 15. Occurrence of sulphate-reducing bacteria 16. Bioreactors 17. Sulfurette and its properties 18. Biogenesis of deposits of sulphur, oil and sulphides 19. Application of sulphate-reducing bacteria 20.
