Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

After completion of this subject students will understand basic characteristics of water environment, the evolving and categorization of freshwater communities, the pollution of water ecosystems by wastewater and some additional issues (acidification, eutrofication etc.).

Subject syllabus:

1. Limnologie, vznik a vývoj hydrobiologie. Základní charakteristiky a klasifikace vodního prostředí - druhy a typy vod. 2.Fyzikální procesy - hustota, viskozita, povrchové napětí, elektrická vodivost, hydrostatický tlak, sluneční záření, průnik světla do vody, proudění, míchání, sedimentace, teplota, vliv teploty a větru na pohyb vody. 3.Chemické procesy – obsah plynů ve vodě, redox potenciál, pH, tvrdost vody, anorganické a organické látky ve vodách. Cyklus fosforu, dusíku, uhlíku, dusíku, síry. 4.Základy hydrobotaniky. Ekofyziologie vodních a mokřadních rostlin. 5.Hydrobiologie stojatých vod - abiotické faktory. 6.Hydrobiologie stojatých vod - biotické faktory, biocenózy, biologická produktivita. 7.Hydrobiologie tekoucích vod. 8.Struktura a funkce hlavních společenstev vodních organismů. 9.Primární a sekundární produkce, trofické vztahy a modifikace trofických sítí. 10.Regulační mechanismy a význam životních procesů pro kvalitu vodního prostředí. - Látková a energetická bilance. 11.Extrémní biotopy - acidifikace, eutrofizace. 12.Vodní společenstva (plankton, nekton, pleuston, bentos, drift) – vnitrodruhová a mezidruhová konkurence, populační dynamika, rozmístění druhů a jejich vývoj, vliv predace a narušení na strukturu společenstva. 13.Odpadní vody – druhy odpadních vod a jejich vlastnosti, způsoby znečištění povrchových vod, účinky nejčastěji se vyskytujících škodlivých látek.
