Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The course provides basic information on pedology (soil science). Soil is explained as a part of ecosystems and as a component of environment. The study of the course is based on the basic course of Geology, Mineralogy and Petrography. It prepares for study of Soil Protection. The properties of soils are studied as a base for understanding of soil processes (physical properties of soil, chemical properties of soils, sorption properties of soils, basics of hydropedology). The soil classification is based on international classification FAO-UNESCO.

Lectures: Soil science - its status and development tasks. Soil and its characteristics. Weathering processes. Pedogenic processes. Mineral phases in soils. Natural organic matter in soils. Physical properties of soils. Chamické properties of soils. Sorption properties of soils. Soil water. Biological properties of soils. Edaphon. Humus, humification processes. Diagnostic soil horizons. Soil Classification - basic principles used systems. Horizontal and vertical zonality soils. Soil Sampling and field survey of soils. Analyses of soils. Map data in soil science. Paleopedologie. Fossil soils. Exercise: Specific weight of the soil. Acid-base reactions. Hydrolitic acidity. Buffering capacity of soils. Determination of the moving aluminum. The alkalinity of soils. Determination of chloride. Sorption properties of soils.
